Brief Profile

Dr. Gail R. Nonnecke is University Professor, Morrill Professor, and Global Professor at Iowa State University.  She is a faculty member in the Department of Horticulture and Graduate College and serves as the Faculty Coordinator of the Global Resource Systems major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She is the Associate Director for Education Programs in the Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods at Iowa State University, with projects in Kamuli district, Uganda. She earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Dr. Nonnecke’s research, teaching, and outreach over the past 10 years have focused on global education of undergraduate and graduate students and international horticultural projects to benefit smallholder farmers. Throughout her career, she has received numerous teaching awards, including at the national level – the USDA, Food and Agricultural Sciences Excellence in Teaching National Award and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Iowa Professor of the Year.
